I’ve just gotten to the discussion of successful or good rebrands, and your mention of the Cleveland baseball team made me chuckle. The name chosen was great but the baseball team announced the name after being made aware of the local roller derby team, and went so far as to file a trademark registration outside the US to try to bully the derby team.
Great naming, and could have been a great rebrand, but they managed to do so while trying to bully a smaller sports league, which taints their success in my mind.
