I don’t have a whole lot to say about the series, but I do find it very strange that royalty is so popular in countries too new to have had a monarchy. I mean, I feel like I saw in the papers, somewhere, that we in the United States fought an ENTIRE war so that we wouldn’t need to hear about families whose claim to fame is that an ancestor said that God told him he was in charge…
To use the Star Wars analogy, is Princess Anne Princess Leia? ( I ask this having yet to see The Rise of Skywalker.) She came away from Season Three as my favorite royal, both on the show and maybe in reality. I am disappointed the show did not detail the time she thwarted her own kidnapping and the other time she participated in the 1976 Olympics in the properly royal event of equestrian events.
Given the recent news about Harry and Meghan “stepping back” from their royal duties (and the awkward response from Buckingham Palace), I can only assume that they watched “The Crown” and were horrified enough that they wanted to get away from the institution while also helping ensure that there’s plenty of juicy material for Season 7.

I mean, yikes, right?

Having grown up on American-made stories where the heroes fighting for freedom and democracy are monarchs and/or aristocrats (He-Man, Thundercats, etc.), I find it satisfying to see arms of a major royal family saying, “nah, this is pretty stupid. I need a real job.”
The real question for future historians, though, is probably going to be whether this is more about the disgusting harassment heaped on the princess, Brexit, or not wanting Uncle Andrew anywhere near the kids…
