Pokemon Go Explains the 2016 Election

Who will take over the White House gym?

This was honestly my kid’s idea. He spends most of his waking hours thinking about Pokemon Go, so it was only a matter of time before he came up with a Pokemon theory of the 2016 Election.

Slight digression – I think analyzing Pokemon Go team selection data would be fascinating. Your choice of team gives you no special benefit, so people are just picking based on their personal philosophy (strength vs careful study vs goin’ with the flow), their favorite color, or which leader they find the most attractive. Here’s one thing that jumped out at me – according to a report on MarketWatch, 60% of players are male. Yet the only male gym leader, Spark, is the least popular choice. As a point of comparison, the Mass Effect games give you the choice of playing as a man or woman, and only 18% of players pick the woman. Niantic, release some spreadsheets! Gotta crunch ’em all!

I’m a bit numb here because the vast majority of media coverage of the election…. is indistinguishable from this article.
And for all the humour and entertainment these things are supposed to bring, just makes me very very sad.

US isn’t some dinky country in some corner of the world where nothing matters so just have a laugh. It’s a hyperpower, with several wars going on right now… with several more planned.

Not to disparage your kid here. He’s right up with the media elites.
