Dear Overthinkers,
When we founded Overthinking It back in 2008, it was never just about the movies or the TV shows. When we dug into the philosophy of Batman or the economics of Star Wars, a spirit of late-night pizza debates, common-room think tanks and thesis defenses over cheese fries was never far away. Feeling at home and being with friends has always been a big part of what Overthinking It is all about. We have smarter fun together.
We’ve kept looking for ways to give those people who feel like they think how we think, who feel at home here, a better reason to put up their feet and stay a while. We’ve done forums, live events, international meet-ups, guest writers, live streaming TV recaps, Twitter, Facebook, and all the other stuff.
Today we’re starting a new way to provide this extra connection — and it’s something we’ve waited to do for a long time, because we wanted to get it right.
Get the Letter! Join the Club!
The big news today is that we’re launching an email newsletter today! You should sign up! It will make your life better and more fun! And it’s free!
Every week you’ll get a letter from me, Pete Fenzel, one of the founding writers of Overthinking It, or occasionally a special guest, on something fun, interesting and relevant to pop culture today. It will include fresh overthinking, straight from the oven, plus curated content every week—a roundup of new and relevant Overthinking It articles, conversation starters, special features, plus other articles around the web we think are interesting.
The newsletter gives us a new way to send the more dedicated Overthinkers stuff you gals and guys want. We’re not going to be publishing the stuff in the newsletter anywhere else. We can promote new movie nights, live shows, Con appearances or events that you might want to go to in your hometown or elsewhere, but that might get missed on the main website or podcast.
Get cool stuff!
One big thing you’ll get in the future for your free subscription is exclusive access to merchandise and new products. If we sell you something, we want it to be because we sincerely think you’re going to like it.
And because we don’t have our own warehouse or anything like that, and because we care about giving you fair prices, merchandise we offer will mostly be made in limited edition, for a limited time, and may be available only to newsletter subscribers.
This is great! What should I do?
Sign up here!
I’m really excited to be getting this started; we’ve been talking about it for a long time. This ultimately all about a more fun and satisfying way to be part of Overthinking It, which as we’ve found over the years and keep finding every day, is bigger than any one person or small group of college friends.
Cheers,
Pete
Answers To Questions We Thought You Might Ask Frequently
-
Do you sell my information to anybody?
No, of course not. We’ll only use your email for the weekly newsletter.
-
But you say that now…
If we have plans to do anything else (like, say, add you to a list for a specific party we’re having), we will ask you first, in plain English. Or, you know, ornate and overeducated English. But we’ll ask you, and proceed only do it if you say yes.
-
But I’ve been hurt before…
We won’t do that garbage where people assume you want something and put the button to opt out on page eight in tiny gray font. That’s ungrateful and childish. You can leave at any time, and it’s between you and your
